Summer Island transports us to an island where a girl is spending her summer holiday with her grandmother. On the stage, we see a single canopy-bed, at the front of which there is a counter on which a varied collection of old objects is displayed on small chests of drawers. Around this small, fragile living space from a bygone age, a young actress brings the objects to life with her performance. Latvian is spoken during the production, a language that guides the girl’s highly-visual associative journey like a pure play of sound.
